B.H.P. steel output fell

NZPA-Reuter Melbourne The Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Ltd, produced 634,000 tonnes of raw steel during August, which was 100,000 tonnes less than in the previous corresponding period, and 62,000 tonnes lower than in July. The company said that two major rail traffic strikes at Port Kembla were responsible for the reduced output. Iron production for the month was also reduced, and at 659,000 tonnes was 11,000 tonnes below production for August last year.
