Andrew ready for Wanganui

Special Correspondent Hastings

Andrew, Fontenoy, Young Catherine and Cloudy Lease, (he four Hastings entrants for tomorrow’s Wanganui meeting, rounded off their final preparations in grand style yesterday morning.

Fast work was done on the plough, which provided good footing. Andrew had his raceday rider, David Withington, aboard in his 1000 m gallop with Fontenoy (Mrs Jones). They kept together throughout the assignment running the last 800 m in 52.25ec and the final 600 in 38.7 sec. Both horses have been given a lot of work and could show up in their respective races tomorrow. Andrew will take on a highclass field in the $6OOO Seivewright Stakes and Fontenoy will start in the Higgie Handicap. Young Catherine (McKay) showed that she will be the one to beat in the first nontote maiden when galloping easily on the outside of Master Lad (Robinson) over 800 m in 51 sec, the final 60()m taking 39sec. Young Catherine is by King Canary out of the former useful sprinter, Qarester. She was a good 'last s£ar£ second over 1200 m at Foxton.

Cloudy Lease (Hayes) was paired up with Fleet Symbol (Withington) for his final run before tackling the Higgle Handicap. He was striding out well on the outside and slightly ahead of his partner after 600 m in 38. Isec. SMART 800 | Sky (Julius), which is soon to be put to stud, ran a smart 800 m in 52.55ce, the final 600 taking 38.2 sec. She will probably start at the Hawke’s Bay meeting. She is expected to be mated with the Paramount Stud’s stallion, Valuta, before very long. Coloured Vision (Miss Saxon) cleared out on Crown D’Or (Hayes) in their 1000 m gallop. Coloured Vision is a very smart galloper but, unfortunately, is not very sound. He was timed

over the distance in l:4.6sec. The last 600 m taking 40sec.

Gai (Mrs Hercock) ran from the 800 m peg and was timed over the final 600 m in 38.1 sec. This was a good time and Gai is looking in great shape to resume racing.

Top Lady (Chapman) and Elsthorpe (Johnson) took the time honours for the morning with an amazing 1000 m in l:2sec, the final 600 taking 50.5 sec. Top Lady is looking particularly well and must be a winning chance at her next outing.

Tom (Withington) and Zack (McNab) required 1:19.7 for 1200 m, the 800 taking 52.75ec and the final 600 in 39.55ec. Chinkara (Hall) and Airglow (Frethey) ran the final 600 m of their 1000 in 38.5 sec and Red Label (Anderson) ran the same journey in 52.45ec, the final 600 taking 38sec.
