Chance for youngsters
The Linwood Rugby League Club has departed (from the usual procedure by [leaving out its more recog[nised young players for a ! colts trip to Palmerston North and Blenheim this ; week-end. Mr John Flanagan, thej iteam coach, said that the; purpose of the tour was to I “give a boost” to players from the club's third grade, 19-years, 17-years and 16-years squads who had not represented Canterbury this season. Finance for the tour had been raised by a “runathon” j from Blenheim to Christ- \ church in February, held in| ; conjunction with paraplegic I jsportsmen. Sponsorship had' jalso been given by Ballins. Matches will be held against junior sides from; Manawatu (Saturday) and' Marlborough (Sunday) and Mr Flanagan said that it was; hoped that the colts trip ! would become an annual' event. Another “runathon” j was already planned from! Greymouth to Christchurch next year.
