5000m as two races
The Canterbury senior men’s | 5000 m championship will be held as two races, should numbers warrant this, delegates to the I Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic. Asso- | ciation decided at the annual ' meeting. Athletes may decide which | race, A or B. they wish to enter, I but the rule that f orbids an A ! class runner to enter B class i competition will apply. Moving the remit.* Mr B W I Taylor (University-Shirley) said lit was the result of problems past year, mainly congestion from . runners being lapped when there were big fields. The new system, he said, would satisfy athletes, but they must understand the new system early in the season. j The opening day of the season ■will be October 16. Fees to the centre were raised, mainly as a result of increased fees charged by the N.Z.A.A.A. The new fees, with last year’s fees in parentheses, are: Senior men, $lO ($8); junior men, $9 ($7;; boys under 18. $8 ($7); under 16 and 14 $5 ($4); senior women, $lO ($8); girls under 18, $8 ($7); under 16 and 14. S 5 (S 4 road runners. $6 (S 4 The road runners’ fee was lowered to $6 from a Recommended S 7, after an amendment. South Canterbury and West Coast fees were also raised, but they retained their concessions. Selectors for senior and junior men’s and senior women’s representative teams will be Messrs .V. Briedis, B. W. Taylor, and R. J. Grieve. The selectors for under-age teams will be Messrs 18. S. Hunt and P. G. Davies and I Mrs D B Jameson.
