U.N. delay on Vietnam

NZPA-Reuter New York Members of the United Nations Security Council, meeting privately, have agreed to. defer the consideration of Vietnam’s application for United Nations membership, which the United States has threatened to veto, according to informed sources at U.N. headquarters in New York. They said the proposal to delay the issue came from the French delegate, Mr Jacgues Lecompte, who said that France had been in contact with the Vietnamese on the matter.

A spokesman for the Vietnam observer mission told reporters that his government did not object to the deferment.
