Fire at Aorangi School

Fire severely damaged two classrooms at the Aorangi School, Bryndwr, early last evening.

Two fire engines were sent to the school in Colwyn Street soon after 5.45 p.m. By the time they arrived the building was well alight and the fire had spread into the roof. The fire began in a corner of a classroom in a rear block of four rooms. Jt spread through the dividing wall into an adjoining room and both rooms suffered severe damage.

The school’s headmaster (Mr D: B. Fahy) said he had reservations about how the fire could have started where it did. The CJ.B. is investigating and the cause should be established today. Mr Fahy said last evening that because one class was away for two days there would be no immediate accommodation problem, but some arrangements would have to be made to accommodate the two classes which lost their rooms. The Education Department’s property supervisor will inspect the damage this morning.
