Drop in new car figures
PA Wellington There has been a steady decline in the number of new motor vehicles registered with the Post Office over the last three years. The department’s annual report, tabled in Parliament yesterday, shows that 165,672 new vehicles were registered in the year ending March 31; in the previous financial year the figure was 173,886, and in the year before that, 189,646. But there has been a significant increase in the licensing of colour television sets—a total of 188,911 in the last financial year, compared with 82,027 in the previous year. Black and white licences decreased by about 86,000, to 622,000.
