Dave Roberts (Hawke’s Bay), who won the Trans Tours national championofpehampions indoor bowls tournament in Hamilton at the week-end, had special reason to be happy with his prize — a 10-day trip for two to Fiji. He will shortly marry Miss Wendy Jeffares and the couple will make the trip their honeymoon. Roberts, a 41-year-old tobacco process worker, won the title from 35 other provincial champions. It was his first national success in 27 years of indoor bowling. In the 18-end final, which was in doubt until the last bowl, Roberts heat Aaron Thomas, of Auckland. The Canterbury entrant, Barrie Weir, failed to get past the qualifying rounds and one of the best efforts by a South Islander was from Anne Smith, of North Otago. She reached the quarter-finals. In the photo, Dave Roberts shares his new trophy with his fiancee, Wendy Jeffares.
