New Brighton increase stakes by $31,000
Stake increases by the New Brighton Trotting Club will rise by almost 21 per cent on last year's total during the next 12 months. This was announced yesterday by the president of the club, Mr Bruce Woods. The increases will amount to §31.000. Mr Woods said that the escalating costs facing

Mr Woods said he was) i pleased to announce the 'largest-ever annual increase, in stakes bv the club brought about by the granting of an; additional .05 per cent com-j mission on on-course turnover and an anticipated in-
crease in T.A.B. distribution. He said that a spectacular injection of stakes was to be made to the intermediate classes. As from the clubs summer meeting in December class-four pacers would be racing for $2750, $7OO more than last year, and the stakes for races for classsix pacers were to be increased by $lOOO to $3400. Horses assessed at CO to C 3 would receive an increased subsidv from the New Zealand Racing Authority and an additional contribution from the club. Maiden horses will now race for stakes of Islsoo and class-three horses I for $2400. Feature races will all receive an increase with [special attention being direcited towards the Miracle Mile, 'which has put the club on
the map as well as leading the field in sprint racing in; New Zealand. The stake for this race has been increased: by $2500 to $12,500 and the; bonus stakes remain the same. . The stake for the Celebrity! Stakes, a feature race for! three-year-olds, has been in-j creased to $5OOO. The extra $lOOO for this event has been; provided bv a special grant; from the Racing Authority.; The Nevele R. Stud Stakes.! a race for three-year-old fil-i lies leading up to the New Zealand Oaks, will carry a | stake of $2500 and the stake ifor the Oaks next February has been boosted by $lOOO to I $12,000. The stake increases will j apply across the board for I both pacers and trotters in 'all classes.
