Otago XV wins
PA Dunedin An Otago XV beat North Otago, 19-18, in a representative rugby match at Carisbrook on Saturday, the winning points coming eight minutes from time. North Otago, which led 12-0 after only 15 minutes, was ahead 15-13 at half-time and retained the lead for most of the second half. A grand try, and an even better conversion by the full-back, Noel Pickrang, gave the Otago XV its winning points. Basketball.—Eastern Southland took the title and Hastings were close runners-up when the New Zealand men’s minor basketball championships ended in Hastings. The Southerners, the only South Island team at the championships. won all their five games.
