Sale wins in gymnastics
PA Rotorua The men’s elite grade defending champion, T. Sale (Auckland) retained his title at the New Zealand gymnastics championships at Rotorua at the week-end. Sale gave excellent performances on the floor and horizontal bar in the second round of the optional section. However, Sale faced a strong challenge from his provincial team-mate, N. Davies, who scored top marks in the vault and in the parallel bars sections. R. Wilkins (Waikato) was third in the championship. The women’s elite title was won by D. Richards (Otago), who won the vault and bars exercises in her section. P. Hall (Canterbury) performed consistently for second place, while K. Durward (Canterbury) was third. The women’s grade II title was won by A. O’Connor (Waikato) from D. Camplin (Auckland) and J. Rath (Canterbury).
