Canterbury loses table tennis
PA Tauranga Auckland and Hutt Valley are unbeaten in both the men’s and women’s sections afler only three rounds in the national inter-association teams table tennis championships played in Tauranga 1 yesterday. Hutt Valley men beat Canterbury 6-5 last evening, Hone Ridley beating Wayne Adamson and Maurice Burrows, and Terry Murphy also beating Burrows. Auckland defeated Northland 6-0, getting a good start, with Richard Lee beating James Morris in a tense three-set match. Morris, one, and Lee are the two top seeds for the individual championships starting tomorrow.
In other matches last evening, Franklin beat Wellington 6-2. and in the women's section Auckland beat Canterbury, 6-2, Wellington beat Northland. 9-0, and Hutt Valley beat North Taranaki, 6-0. Early results, back page.
Athletics. — The East German woman sprinter, Rcnate Stechei. double sold medallist at the 1972 Munich Olympics, has re tired, the A.D.N. news agency. reported. The agency said Miss] Siccher s 200-metre victory at a three-way international against Poland and Russia in Warsaw was the 26-year-old athlete’s last race for her country.
