Warders' new clubrooms
The Minister of Justice (Mr Thompson) cut the ribbon to open the prison officers' social club rooms at Paparua Prison last evening, and later presented long-service medals to five officers. In a short, informal speech the Minister congratulated the officers, some of whom have been with the Prison Service for 21 years. He also commended them for the work they are doing.
The recipients of medals included Messrs B. Horgan, J. de Wagt, K. D. Graham, J. Carr and T. Kay (absent), and Mrs Z. Smith. About 100 people attended the ceremony.
Soccer.—The wayward British soccer ace, George Best, back in London after a season with the North American soccer (league’s Los Angeles Aztecs, is (seeking a five-year SUSIBO.OOO contract with London's Fulham Club. the "Daily Mirror" news(paper reported.
