PA Invercargill A 14-year-old Invercargill boy drowned yesterday when the canoe in which he and a companion were crossing the Oreti River at Otatara overturned and sank. He was

His companion was admitted to hospital after struggling ashore and stopping a motorist. The incident occurred about 9.30 a.m. when the boys were crossing the river in a small fibreglass
canoe. They were not wearing lifejackets.
