Aust. market slumps

Sustained selling pressure depressed share prices on Australian stock exchanges yesterday.

Leading mining and industrial shares showed some of the heaviest losses in weeks. B.H.P, slumped 22c to 904 c. The Wales dropped 8c to 600 c and Woolwortns eased 7c to 144 c, despite the higher interim results.

Despite its stronger interim results, Myers lost 8c to 143 c. Comalco, Aust. Guarantee, Hooker, Amatil, and B.M.L were other leading industrials to lose ground. C.S.R. slumped 10c to 532 c.

Pancontinental fell 30c to 1490 c. Western Mining, and Peko-Wallsend Jost 6c each. Some coals were also able to make headway. Woodside Burmah, B. H. South, M.1.M., and C.R.A. had some of the largest falls among miners, but Robe River. Kathleen and Cons Gold held their ground.
