Illness toll now 25
NZPA-Reuter Philadelphia A 64-year-old woman who attended the American Legion war veterans’ convention in Philadelphia has died from “Legionnaire’s Disease,” raising the death toll to 25, according to a spokesman for Pennsylvania’s health secretary. The death of Jane Palmer, a legionnaire’s wife, was the first attributed to the stillunidentified ailment since last Sunday, when two men died.
“It’s our feeling here that we’re working at the tail-end of whatever this is. We may find a few more people coming down with the disease and we may, although I certainly hope not; have a few more deaths,” said Dr David Soricelli, Philadelphia’s deputy health commissioner. Mrs Palmer’s death was announced by Mr Bob Cos-, tello, spokesman for the state health secretary (Dr Leonard Bachman). Mr Costello said Dr Bachman would have no comment on the death.
