Rampage in Ulster
NZPA Belfast! Youths went on the rai - page at Lurgan in County Armagh yesterday, attacking the golf club, stoning troops, and trying to burn the railway crossing gates in Leech Street. The police said the trouble began when a group of about 25 youths attacked the Lurgan golf club, breaking all the windows, before moving to the army' post in Church Street which they stoned. Later a crowd of about 80 tried to burn the gates of the railway crossing in Leech Street. “They did not succeed but the gates were damaged.” the spokesman said.
As a result early-morning trains were cancelled until thv gates were repaired. A milk churn containing 1001 b of explosive was neutr"lised by an army bomb disposal expert on Saturday night after it had been discovered covered by stones at Forkhill. Trouble also flared at Lo .- donderry, where a group of youths set fire to a barricade on the Creggan Estate before stoning the William Street army checkpoint.
