A plaque, commemorating the solo flight over the Tasman, by Guy Menzies, will be unveiled at Hanhan — his landing place — on November 13. Friends and relatives of the pioneer aviator will travel from Australia for the ceremony, the West Coast Branch of the Historic Places Trust was told on Wednesday evening. The Seddon House historic reserve plaque will be unveiled in Kumara on November 7. The plaque and picnic spot will be located outside the site of Richard John Seddon’s home in Kumara. The West Coast and Canterbury branches vwill combine to set up plaques along the old Christ-church-Greymouth road to mark the stopping places for stage coaches during the journey.
