Bell still ahead
PA Auckland Although sales in the first three months of this year were above last year, and ahead of budget, it was difficult to predict further results in the current economic situation, the chairman of Bell Radio Television Holdings, Ltd (Mr A. P. Bell) said at the annual meeting. The effects of the Budget’s increasing the sales tax on [TV sets, and earlier rninibudget controls were severe, [he said. People to whom it was no financial problem to own a colour TV set probably already had one, and it was those who were saving for a set who were now being penalised. The price of the firm’s Coloursonic 3 set was now approximately back to the price of the model it superseded; and savings, made by planning and increased efficiency, which were passed on to the consumer, had now been cancelled out. The company was looking for new products and opportunities in allied fields with a view to diversification, said Mr Bell.
