‘Extras’ may be dose of v.d.

PA Wellington People partaking of “extras” at massage parlours have been warned to check to see whether they have contracted venereal disease. A venereologist at Wellington Hospital, Dr K. R. Bremner, said yesterday that there was strong evidence that the disease was being contracted at parlours. “We have been getting one or two patients a week who claim they contracted venereal disease at massage parlours,” he said. “They, of course, have got it by having sex and

not from legitimate massages or saunas." The disease was being transmitted because people did not take commonsense precautions or have checks.

This did not just apply to massage parlours, hut to all persons who had sex with new partners. “It’s never mandatorv to have a check, but it is plain common sense.” Dr Bremner said he did not mean to imply that all massage parlours offered sex; some were undoubtedly legitimate massage parlours. He wanted only to warn of the dangers at the parlours where “extras” were available.
