Motorway funds call

The Canterbury Automobile Association is to urge the National Roads Board to consider as soon as possible the allocation of funds for the completion of the Southern Motorway. A meeting of the association’s council decided to press for completion of the work. “The longer they defer it, the more it is going to cost,” Cr T. D. Craig said. Curtailment of work on the motorway was announced on July 15 by the District Commissioner of Works (Mr P. F. Reynolds). He was reported to have said that the board had advised that new work would not be started until 1978 or 1979.
