Rally road damage studied
i The Akaroa County 1 Engineer (Mr K. A. paulin) is [preparing a report* for his [council on damage done to [roads during the passage of 'Heatway Rally cars. Damage had been done to surfaces on some of the unsealed roads, he said yesterday. Both Pettigrews and Middle Roads at Pigeon Bay had suffered a lot .of damage, and the position was the same with Camerons and Big Hill roads. There had been less extensive damage to the Stock Route — between the Summit Road and Duvauchelle — but the unsealed part of the Bossu Road, up from Wainui. had been little affeced. He said information was being gathered on the extent to which repairs would be necessary. While the rally organisers accepted responsibility for repairing such things as fences and culvert walls, the position was not clear on road work. "I would think it is a question for the council to take up with the organisers of the rally,” said Mr Paulin.
