Rubber workers suspended
Ten suspension notices) were issued to workers at the Firestone Tire I Company's factory in Papa-i nui yesterday, bringing the ; number suspended to 27. The suspension notices will take effect in a week. The company claims that the! 1 notices have been issued because of an overtime ban and go-slow by the workers. J The secretary of the Canterbury Rubber Workers' Union (Mr L. Morel) said last evening that the suspen-| sions were the fourth in al series over the las; two' months. He said they were: the result of the company’s inability to recognise a bonus dispute. Mr Morel said the workers were working a four-day week in protest at the company’s failure to reach agreement with them. The union had offered to discuss the dispute with the company but the company had refused to come to the negotiating table until the resumption of a full working week. There was no intention to widen the matter at present, said Mr Morel.
