Riots in tour area
NZPA Durban The All Blacks are keeping a close interest in South African news regarding outbreaks of violence in the Witbank region of the Transvaal where they are due to play next month. At least two people have been killed in recent days and black schools have been closed in the wake of a ‘youth rebellion.” Among the areas of violence are the Pretoria-Witbank highway and the Lynviile township near Witbank. The All Blacks are due to travel by coach along the Pretoria-Witbank road on August 24 for the match at Witbank that day against Transvaal Country Districts. There is no suggestion at this stage, however, that the itinerary might be changed, and latest reports say the area is calm.
