Brown Dod hung on turn

PA Timaru Brown Dod (J. Pankhurst), the favourite for the Belmont, Handicap on Saturday, started to hang out on reaching the turn out of the back straight, and as a result could not be ridden out to advantage, it was found at an inquiry at Washdyke on Saturday. Rocky Leigh (R. McAra), the favourite in the Craigmore Handicap, ran greenly during the early stages of the race and in spite of being ridden with vigour on the home turn could not respond and finished in midfield. McAra confirmed the official observation that at no time was Rocky Leigh racing kindiv.
