Veterans’ bowls
Munel McGuire fought back from a 3-6 deficit after five ends to beat Wallace Hom, 15-10, in the final of the Canterbury Indoor Bowls Association’s veteran pairs tournament on Saturday. The tournament was limited to players 55 and over and 39 out of 115 pairs entered qualified for post-section play. The title holders, Roma Smith •nd Norma Hocking, were put out by George Topp and RosGreen in a close quarter final match Both semi-finals were fine games with the heads changing repeatedly. After seven ends of the final, Mrs McGuire had levelled at 6-6 A two and a four on the next two ends seemed to have made the match safe for her but Horn had one last rally with a four on the tenth end before succumbing.
