NZPA Montreal World records for sprints up to 400 metres will be recognised only if set by fully automatic timing devices from next May, the International Amateur Athletic Federation Congress decided yesterday. Apart from ensuring ensuring greater accuracy and consistency in short distance events, the move will also help reduce the confusion that has surrounded world sprint records in recent years.
