Virus hits N.Z. athletes

NZPA Montreal Three New Zealanders have been hit by a stomach virus which is sweeping the Olympic Village.

The runners Rod Dixon and Euan Robertson and swimmer Mark Treffers hape all been afflicted in the last few days but the virus did not prevent Treffers competing in the 1500 metres on Tuesday. The virus does not cause vomiting but leaves niggling cramp-like pains. The team manager (Mr Bill Holley) said yesterday the two runners were recovering and training.

Mr Holley added that the virus was one of the reasons he allowed Dick Quax to live outside the village with his wife.' “He has the heats of his big event, the 10,000 metres, on Friday and we didn’t want him to catch the virus at this critical stage,” he said.
