Freak wind lifts roof from store

A freak gust of wind lifted the roof off the Church Bay store on Saturday evening. Parts of the roof were scattered for 50 yards, and stocks were extensively damaged by rain. The estimated damage to the stock was $4OO to $5OO, and the damage to the roof was estimated to be about $lOOO. The proprietor, Mr J. Sims, was not aware of the damage until Sunday morning, by which time there was 2in or 3in of water on the floor of the store. A number of local residents turned out to help with clearing up.
