Counties beat Samoans

PA Auckland The Counties rugby team beat the touring side from Western Samoa 24-4 at the Pukekohe Stadium.

It was not the strongest side the Counties selector could put on the field, but strong enough to point out the shortcomings of Western Samoan rugby. Yesterday, as through their tour thus far, the Samoans lacked a good line-out drill So too did they lack the rucking technique to set up the second-phase play. After a five-minute settling in period — in which time the Samoans looked on top — once the Counties forwards warmed to their work there was little doubt who would win.

The tireless flanker. Hank Harbraken took a monopoly of lineout ball with good twohanded catches and John Hughes, Joe Rawiri and Ray Ketels had no peers in the tight.

Tennis.—The Swedish tennis star, Bjorn Borg, may skip the European Zone Davis Cup semifinals against Italy because of a pulled stomach muscle.
