Stay over debt

NZPA London The Australian Rugby League has been given a stay of four days to answer charges that it owes the English League $20,300. The English League chairman, Mr Harry Womersley, said that he had spoken to League officials in Australia today and they had promised a "definite” answer by Saturday morning. “They said that they were having auditing problems so we expect the matter to be resolved soon. I think they’re just dragging their feet,” he said.

The English League is claiming the money for expenses and a share of gate receipts from last year’s championship. The League has threatened to withdrawn from the 1977 world championship if the money is not forthcoming.
