Stoppage at works

More than 250 workers at the freezing works of Waitaki New Zealand Refrigerating, Ltd, at Islington stopped work for 24 hours yesterday in protest at the Government’s wage freeze.

The men had imposed a 48-hour load-out ban on Monday and Tuesday. Work W’ill resume today. The secretary of the Canterbury Meat Workers Union (Mr Wes Cameron) said last evening that no more protest stoppages were planned, but further action might be taken to express the union’s dissatisfaction with the Government’s policies.
