Aust, miners in demand

A sharp advance in demand for leading mining shares spilled over into the oil and industrial boards to firm share prices in active trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday.

Dealers attributed the sharp advance to strong overseas buying in the Australian resources section, because of a surge in metal prices on foreign markets. Tin miners gained sharply with Renison, Cleveland and Greenbushes firming. Pancontinental and Ocean Resources were in demand gaining 110 c and 9c respectively. B.H.P, gained 9c to 825 c, while A.C.1., 1.C.1.. retailers and brewers were also firmer.

Sugar shares continued to advance and C.S.R. rose 11c to 516 c. However, banks and insurances were weaker. The B.N.S.W. fell 20c to 580 c and the M.L.C. fell 40c to 280 c.
