Old pistons in Suzukis
By
STEWART AVANT, in Europe.
It is probably worth mentioning some of the problems that everyone has been having with the RGSOO Suzukis, even though they are dominating the 500 class. The biggest problem is seizures. Agostini used 14 pistons in one of his Suzukis before Assen. I seized four separate pistons before putting an old set back in. It seems
that every time you put new pistons in you can expect at least one seizure, maybe more. Many riders, myself, included are running up a lot of miles on old pistons. Solutions have ranged from simple things like new style head gaskets to complete new water systems. Mike Sinclair, who is doing a great job looking after
my bike, seems to think we have got the problem licked by using Dick Lawton type TRSOO tricks. Nevertheless, after every practice or race, Mike pulls the barrels off and cleans up the high spots on the pistons. If Mike was on an hourly wage I would be broke by now.
