Orchestra dispute
Sir, — Mr Bradshaw’s description of my statements as extravagant demands an answer. Professor John Ritchie in an affidavit to the Supreme Court stated that the Canterbury Orchestra Trust had received $49,000 in grants for the year ended March 31. 1976. Mr Bradshaw, in a similar affidavit, stated that at May 14. 1976. the trust’s assets were
$1467.15 at bank, and chattels to the value of $2952.75. It is undeniable that the trust has mounted two concerts on its own behalf and that only about 400 seats were sold. The trust was paid for the use of the orchestra for the other events in which it took part. The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra mounted two similar concerts on December 20 and February 7 for a nett loss of $654 (exclusive of the conductor's fee). — Yours, etc., F. STUART-JONES. June 17, 1976.
