Norfolk Air surprises

(N. Z.P.A. Reuter —Copyright) LONDON. The Australian jockey, Ron Hutchinson, threw the English Derby form books upside down when he rode Norfolk Air to victory in the Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield, on Saturday. Judging his run perfectly on the twisting downhill run to the straight, Hutchinson took Norfolk Air to the lead shortly after the field turned for home, then the colt accelerated away to win easily The shock performance came from odds on favourite. Riboboy, which ran at the tail of the field after missing the start, and finished seventh in the eight horse field. Riboboy was expected to challenge Wollow for favouritism in the Derby on June 2 with a win in the Derby Trial. He was quoted around 10 to 1 third favourite for the Derby before the run. The best available about Wollow was 11 to 8, but his price may go into the red after Riboboy’s dismal failure. Norfolk Air, 50 to 1 for the Derby earlier, was quoted at 16 to 1 by one bookmaking firm immediately after his win. It was Hutchinson’s ninth winner in Fr>«?land this season.
