Silver Coat easy winner
Silver Coat and Coldor, rival candidates for the Amberley club's Arthur Burke Memorial on Saturday, won barrier trials for two-vear-olds over 1000 m at Riccarton yesterday. Silver Coat, a Final Orders gelding with winning form for Mrs R. P. Register, won the second heat from the starting gate on the outside of the course proper by four lengths from Lurkio. Coldor won the first heat by half a length from Trespasser, with Rose’s Boy and Rockford finishing closest of the others. Lycus and Gay Debbie won heats for maiden performers. A promising second to Gay Debbie was Crestina, a Crest of the Wave fiUy from Graham Barr’s team owned by Mr E. A. P. Howarth, of Wellington. Just Henry beat No Decision by half a length and finished clear of the others in one of the sprints for horses with winning form below “open” class. The No. 7 grass was open for those not sprinted from the starting gate and the efforts of prominent Amberley Cup candidates claimed most attention. Karnak was teamed with her stablemates, Ruy Lopez and Padrona, to run 1200 m in Imin 17.5 sec, the last 600 in 39.25ec. The Amberley Cup top weight, Audaciter, ran 1200 m easily in Imin 23.75ec, but his stablemate, Beau Trie, was busier, recording Imin 18.2 sec, the last 600 in 39.8 sec. Deep Mystery, winner of the Great Autumn Handicap at his last start, sprinted from the 1200 m in Imin 19.4 sec. Gay Partner, a winner for the R. J. McCann stable at Riccarton at Easter, was paired with her stablemate Fulbak to run 1200 m in Imin 19sec, the last 600 strongly in 38.6 sec. Cool Charm and Jan’s Lady, lesser lights from the Thistoll stable, did well to run their 1200 m in Imin 18.2 sec. Comet Boy led Salonika by two lengths, ending 1200 m in Imin 19.5 sec, the last 600 in 39.95ec.
