Chertsey gymkhana had something for all

The annual Chertsey 1 gymkhana and nontotalisator trotting meeting held on Monday in warm sunshine attracted an estimated 5000 patrons. Gate takings were $1159. The gvmkhana maintained. Its popularity as the main; Faster holiday attraction in the Ashburton district, and the varied programme had appeal for all ages. The Chertsey Cup, the main race in the nine-event trotting programme, went to Times Square, driven by L G. Thomas. The double on this race and the Second Leafmore handicap was $42. Among the attractions on the programme were a display by girls of the Buckett’si Gymnasium, Christchurch, and for the first time at the gymkhana, an exhibition of; karate.
