Concert series by quartet
The Camerata Quartet on Sunday will open a series of concerts arranged by the extension studies department and the School of Music of the University of Canterbury. The concerts, all timed for 4 p.m. on Sundays, will be held in the Ngaio Marsh Theatre, and nearly all the works on the programmes will be new to the quartet’s repertoire. Sunday’s programme includes quartets by Mozart, Shostakovich and Schubert, and the “Bullfighter’s Prayer,” by Turina. In the second concert, in June, John Luxton, of the School of Music, will join the quartet to play the Shostakovitch Piano Quintet. The third concert will be in October, and will feature music by Shostakovitch | again, and Smetana and! Haydn.
