Wakatipu reserve
The declaration of an area of wetland at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu as a wildlife manageIment reserve has been approved by the Minister of Lands (Mr V. S. Young), The member of Parliament for Otago Central. Mr W. E. Cooper has announced.
The 42.6 hectare reserve is considered to be the only wetland in the upper Lake • Wakatipu region which has i sufficient swamp vegetation 'to provide enough cover to support some of the more rare and protected birds such as the* marsh crake and the bittern.
