Serious injuries
A woman is seriously ill and four others are In Christchurch Hospital with minor injuries after a three-car collision near Woodend on Sunday afternoon. The accident happened at 1.15 p.m. at the intersection of Woodend Road and State Highway 1 when a car and two oncoming cars collided. Daphne Moorhead, of 1094 Avonside Drive, Christchurch, suffered serious head injuries and had to be cut from the wreckage by the Rangiora St John Ambulance rescue unit. She was in a poor condition last evening. Stephen John Moorhead and Philip Moorhead suffered minor injuries, and were in a fairly comfortable condition last evening. Arthur Brinkman, and his wife, Ailsa Brinkman, of 48A Fendalton Road, suffered minor lacerations and their condition was described as fairly comfortable. Two cars were extensively damaged in the accident and were towed awav.
