Balmerino’s programme in doubt
(N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY. Balmerino’s racing programme is now in doubt following his disappointing sixth on Saturday in the $lOl,OOO Australasian Champion Stakes (2000 m at Randwick. The race was won by the 80-1 outsider. Cheyne Walk, an Australian-bred colt. From 11th at the turn after running most of the race on the rails, Balmerino gained a breakthrough on the inside the 300 m mark, and ranged up to the leader. Lord Dudley. But then he began to fade as Cheyne Walk swept down the outside of Lord Dudley to beat him by a long neck. Balmerino's trainer. Brian Smith, is still unsure whether he will race the colt in Sydney next week or go on to Melbourne.
