Rosie’s Girl fancied in Champion Stakes

(Special Corresponds.’.r > AUCKLAND The rain of yesterday, as brief as it was, guaranteed that Rosie s Girl. Mer’Cier and Happy Union would be favourties for the $lO,OOO Champion Stakes at Ellerslie today. Each is in good form and better always the less jarring the ground. Indications are that the track will be easy and further rain is a possibility. Rosie's Girl. Mer’Cier and Happy Union have been helped as well by the maximum handicap conditions of the race and the fact that Grey Way was entered. Grey Way was given the limit, naturally, but the rest of the handicap, even then, had to be scaled down. Kashmir Belle is entitled to be favourite for the second leg of the double, the Bowen Handicap, but her trainer. R. C. Verner, said yesterday that she and a stablemate. Romantic Belle, might be reserved for Te Rapa on Tuesday. Good Gift is also a doubtful starter. In that case, and provided the track did not become too soft.
