Motor race protests
CN.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA. The 1975-76 New Zealand motor racing season closed on a slightly bitter note at the Union Company international meeting at Mount Maunganui yesterday when stewards of the Motor Sport Association received a protest against the result of a national championship. It is understood that in the 0-1300 Shellsport championship the Auckland driver, Steve Emson, has protested against alleged team driving by Robbie Francevic and his leading rival, Redge Cook. Cook (Datsun Cherry) won the first heat, and the Emson (Datsun 110 E) the second. Racing was very close all day although the winners were all predictable. New national saloon champion Jack Nazer was never troubled in a depleted 0-6000 c.c. field which lapped lacked Red Dawson, who had wrecked the engine of his Chev Moza while setting fastest time on Saturday. Although he drove with vigour in his first appearance, the grand prix champion, Ken Smith, was never in the hunt in the elderly ex-Dawson Chev Camaro, finishing only one race well back among the Escorts.
