SOUTH ISLAND FARMERS FACED WITH HEAVY DOCK INFESTATION OF LUCERNE CROPS

The wet spring and early summer has resulted in heavy infestations of docks in lucerne crops and pasture, li some areas the growth of docks is so thick that it is considered that the lucerne will not be able to compete. Such infestations unless controlled will cause further rapid growth as well as resulting in poor hay yields and short stand life. Dock infestation can be controlled by Autumn spray-

ing with Asulox—a herbicide which is absorbed through the leaf system of the docks and destroys the crown thereby avoiding any possibility of regrowth. Further, Asulox is well tolerated by lucerne, even where higher rates are needed to give effective control of more stubborn docks such as the “old man” variety. Although slow acting, sometimes taking up to three

weeks before any sign of control is evident, Asulox is effective. And, because Asulox can be sprayed during the Autumn period it causes only minimum disruption to normal farming schedules. Asulox is available through stock and station agents now for autumn application. Manufactured by May and Baker New Zealand, Ltd. Asulox is not a docks best friend. Advertisement
