Defence man dies
<N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 13. The Secretary of Defence) in the mid to late sixties! (Mr William Hutchings) died! lin Auckland yesterday. He! was 65. Mr Hutchings joined the! Public Service as a cadet in! the Public Works Depart-! ment in Whangarei in 1928.) jHe served with that depart-! ment until 1940 when he was seconded for duty in! the Navy Department. He was appointed senior! clerk in the Navy in 19451 and a year later went to the) | naval dockyard at Devonport! as the civil administrative! officer.
