Resort fire kills six
f.V.Z PA Reuter —Copyright I SAPPADA (Italy), April 13. Experts today combed the ruins of a hotel in the Dolomite winter resort of Sappada for clues to a fire which killed six people yesterday, including three Britons and an Austrian.
Ten other people were injured in the pre-dawn blaze, which swept through the 27room three-storey building as dozens of screaming English schoolchildren fled from the flames. The Hotel Dolomiti was packed with 81 British children and their teachers who arrived here on Thursday for a week’s holiday. ’ One teacher and two children died, and a further six children and a teacher suffered fractures and spinal injuries. None was said to be seriously hurt. Among the dead were an Austrian and two Italian hotel employees, who leaped to their deaths from the third storey. The hotel, built 50 years ago. and with a normal capacity of 45 beds, had been modernised several times to I 'conform to safety regulations. officials said. At the time of the fire it held 91 I guests and staff.
