Entry-permit charges
Three West Samoan women had been married in New Zealand after they had been granted three-month entry permits, Mr P. L. Molineaux, S.M., was told in the Magistrate’s Court
All three women pleaded guilty to a charge of overstaying an entry permit. Two of them, aged 20 and 25, were convicted and remanded on bail pending deportation. The third woman, aged 31, had the question of penalty deferred to June 11. The Magistrate was told that this woman had only been married on April 3.
Mr T. M. Abbott, who appeared for two of the defendants, said that the 25-year-old woman’s husband had a permit to remain in New Zealand until 1980. The couple had a child. The 20-year-old woman’s husband was applying for permanent residence.
Two men were also convicted on a charge of overstaying an entry permit. One was a Fijian, aged 28, and the other, a West Samoan, aged 50, who was fined $“2O. Both were allowed bail, pending deportation.
