SUBMISSIONS ON PARENTS’ CENTRES

(H.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, March 17. The Federation of New Zealand Parents’ Centres called today for facilities to be provided for parents to be admitted to hospital with their sick children.

In submissions presented to the Cabinet Committee on Family Affairs, the federation also suggested the establishment of maternity advisory groups to provide comprehensive ante-natal education for childbirth and parenthood for both mothers and fathers.

Three representatives of the federation met two members of the committee — the Minister of Social Welfare (Mr Walker) and the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet) — for talks which the federation president, Dr Noeline Walker, described later as “purely informal.”

Dr Walker said the committee did not' give any definite indication of what it planned but said the two Ministers had been “sincerely sympathetic.” She said the federation believed more help was needed for parent education and antenatal care.
