Death of priest
The Rev. Gerard McGinty, of the Society of Jesus, died suddenly in Brisbane on March 13. He was 62. Bom in Richmond. Melbourne, in 1913, he began teaching at the Holy Name Seminary, Christchurch, at the beginning of 1947. A diligent teacher of history and spiritual director, he was rector of the seminary for 12 years from 1958. During nil rectorate he completed the seminary buildings, adding a new wing, lecture rooms, and chapel. He returned to Australia at the beginning of 1971 to the Jesuit parish in Richmond. A Requeim Mass will be celebrated for him at the Hoyn Name Seminary today at 11.30 a.m.
